This article is for CONTENT OWNERS.

Digital rights management (DRM) is the use of technology to control access to copyrighted material. DRM uses a combination of content encryption and access controls. DRM helps prevents the unauthorized distribution of content and enables copyright holders and content owners to manage what users can do with their content.

SnappSafe is a Digital Rights Management (DRM) solution.

SnappSafe DRM:

SnappSafe DRM encrypts digital content when it is delivered to Snapplify. This prevents unauthorized access and ensures that content remains unreadable outside of the Snapplify Reader. SnappSafe DRM encryption leverages a uniquely generated password to protect a PDF file, and secures individual HTML files within the ePUB.

What content does SnappSafe DRM encrypt:

SnappSafe DRM encrypts files based on the underlying file extension (not the file format), and the configuration of the DRM settings for each content owner.

Asset FormatFile ExtensionEncrypted
Pdf.pdfEncrypted
Epub.epubEncrypted
Snap.snapEncrypted
Audio.audio, .mp3, .wavNo
Video.mp4, .movNo

If you are creating Snap files or Epubs it's important to note that SnappSafe only encrypts specific file types within the Snap file. These include:
.html
.htm
.xml
.xhtml
.ncx
.txt
.svg

Content Owner DRM settings.

Content owners have the ability to specify the DRM settings for securing their content. There are three primary DRM settings which manage how users access your content:

Device limits

Content owners may specify how many different devices a user may access their content on. We encourage content owners to set a minimum of 5 devices.

Find out more about how device limits work.
License duration

Content owners may specify the license duration for the content. Once the license duration has expired the user will no longer have access to the content.

Territorial restrictions

Content owners may restrict access to content based on the location of the user (this usually occurs where the content owners does not have rights of sale in a particular territory). The content owner will specify the allowed/disallowed countries on a per title basis. If the user is in a disallowed country, they will not be able to purchase the content.
